The costume or kit of a rapper team has remained largely unchanged since the early days of the dance. Because of the dance’s association with pitmen, the kit remains very similar to pit clothes of the past. It is generally thought that the costume is based on a pitman’s Sunday best:- A white shirt, cummerbund or sash, huggers (short trousers), socks and black shoes. - The kit does of course vary from team to team. The picture above shows High Spen Blue Diamonds wearing their team kit consisting of:- white shirt, navy blue tie, light blue sash, navy blue socks, blue velvet Hoggers and black shoes.

Addison Rapper’s kit varies slightly. The Addison kit consists of:- white collarless shirt (no tie), burgundy huggers, gold cummerbund, white socks and black shoes. Comparison with a picture of Earsdon team taken almost 100 years earlier shows that the rapper costume has changed very little over the years.
