| Billy Pigg (Photograph Forster Charlton) |
Billy Pigg (1902-1968) was very highly regarded and was said by some to be the best Northumbrian piper ever - his musical legacy is undeniable. His influence can be heard in the playing of most who play the instrument today. Pigg himself learnt style and repertoire from the reknowned Clough family.
In this selection, recorded by Forster Charlton some time in the 1960s, we hear Billy Pigg playing a set of four tunes -
Skye Crofters, Doctor McCloud of Alnwick, Swallows Tail and
Mallorca.
